Quizzes and Tests
Language Arts tests are given every Friday; however, Math, Science, and Social Studies tests are given when the chapter has been completed, regardless of the day of the week. Please note that you will be notified of any upcoming quizzes or tests on the weekly newsletters.
Failed Test Returns (D's & F's)
& Test Makeups
I require that students have EVERY D+, D, D-, or an F signed by a parent and returned the following school day!
I do not allow students to retake tests, however, if a student has not completed their test in the time allotted, or if they were absent during direct instruction or the test day itself, I do hold test makeups Wednesdays during lunch. Wednesdays are also reserved for students needing to catch up on their AR reading or other assignments.

Monthly Progress Reports
At the start of each month, students will receive a printed Q Connect progress report to be signed by the parent and by the student. This ensures that you and your child are both aware of their ongoing academic progress and any subjects that may require more immediate attention. I place your child's signed report in his/her classroom file for my records.
Academic Failure Notices
In addition to the unofficial Monthly Progress Report, McKinley sends home Academic Failure Notices mid-trimester to those students that are not maintaining at least a C- and/or S in any subject.
While these grades do not reflect your child's final Trimester grade, please note that these official McKinley progress reports DO end up in your child’s permanent cumulative folder! Should your child receive one of these notices, please contact me for more information on opportunities for growth .

Extra-Credit
Aside from our California Missions Project in the second trimester, I do not give extra-credit. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that when provided with this option on a more regular basis, students do not put forth their best effort on a daily basis because they feel they can "fix" their grade later. It is my belief that children should try their very best at all times, not just over the course of a few assignments. Grades reflect a student’s performance overall.
