Achievement Grades
This will be a huge transition year for your child! This is the FIRST year your child will be receiving traditional letter
grades for core-academic subjects. Please compare the percentages within the Achievement and Effort grade scales. As your student enters into upper
elementary, the work and expectations are both considerably more rigorous. It is crucial at this point to review with your child the
graded work sent home on a regular basis. This small weekly task will help keep
you both informed of his or her current
progress.
The following subjects receive both an acheivement grade (A - F) and an effort grade (O-N):
Narrative Reading
Informational Reading
|
Math
Writing
|
Spelling
Social Studies (History)
|
Oral Language
Science
|
Effort Grades
Effort grades will be given on report cards in the “Effort” column next to each subject. The effort grade reflects their participation, improvement, and enthusiasm within each subject. Please note that a few subjects (Homework, Behavior, Computer Education, Handwriting, P.E., and Art) are not considered "core-academic subjects," so your child will only receive an effort grade in these areas.
The following subjects receive only an effort grade (O - N):
Art
Computer Education
|
Homework
Handwriting
|
Behavior
Physical Education

0= Outstanding: This grade is earned when a student consistently performs high-quality, neat, and accurate work with exceptional effort demonstrating great understanding of the subject matter. Often this work is above grade-level state standards.
S= Satisfactory: This grade is earned when students complete all assignments and demonstrate an adequate understanding of the subject matter. Their achievement is satisfactory or average, according to California State Standards.
N= Needs Improvement: This grade is earned by students who do not meet minimum levels of effort in their assignments. This child needs to spend more time focused in the given subject, ask questions when necessary, and participate in class discussions.
Please Note: An "S" grade reflects the equivalency of possibly a high B- through a low C, whereas a grade of "S-" is equivalent to a C- through almost a D+!
Online Gradebook Access
The Corona-Norco Unified School District has adopted an online gradebook system that is accessible to parents to view! You will only be allowed access to your own child’s grades and attendance (a PIN number and password are required), but it is a fantastic way to keep track of your child’s progress as each trimester moves forward.

1. Type in your PIN and Password (both are case-sensitive). If you were not provided with the PIN and initial Password during your child’s registration, please speak with the office to attain this information.
I do not have any PINs or Passwords! 2. If you are a newer user I highly recommend reviewing the “F.A.Q.” tab to further help you with setting up your account. 3. You WILL need an email address to set up your P.C. account! Email notifications are sent when updates are made to your child’s account. |
Students will receive a printed Q Connect progress report once a month to be signed by the parent and by the student. This ensures that you and your child are both aware of their academic progress and any subjects that may require more immediate attention.
