"Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards."

I have very high expectations for my students, as does the Corona-Norco Unified School District, officials for the state of California, and the United States government. All topics of instruction and textbooks are explicitly chosen and enforced by the State of California; however, evaluative standards are shifting from state-related to nationally recognized common standards.
The recently adopted Common Core Standards are much more rigorous than previous state standards, and rest heavily on initiative, performance, and academic responsibility by the students themselves. Currently, CNUSD combines the use of both sets of standards to direct instruction and assess comprehension of subject material.

Common Core Standards
"The Common Core State Standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs.”

"Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state."

California Content Standards
California Content Standards were designed and adopted in 1997 to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.
